This modern and eco-friendly house has been built into a hillside in the Peak District. This highly unusual building is single storey only and has an extensive south facing, glazed aspect for passive solar gain. The subterranean construction surrounds the property with extensive thermal mass which provides excellent levels of insulation.
Key planning requirements were that the property was to have a minimal intervention in the landscape due to the sensitive national park location. This has been achieved by burying the building into the hillside, providing a landscaped green roof which takes its inspiration from the surrounding moorland, and ensuring that the existing tree line has been retained with no loss of trees whatsoever as part of the development.
