Concept Architect specialising in delivering residential, mixed use and conservation projects with an emphasis on viability. Lover of all things urban.


Name: Paul Hind
Position: Associate Director
Qualifications: BA(Hons) DipTP MRTPI

Paul is a team leader with over 30 years’ experience in all construction design stages. He provides technical Architectural co-ordination, integrating detail design from inception to completion of projects. He is continuously researching innovative construction methods, techniques and materials to add value and reduce the costs to clients on their projects.


Name: Matt Bowker
Position: Managing Director
Qualification: BA(Hons) Interior Design, MA Urban Design (dist)

Matt is a qualified urban designer and oversees most of CODA Architectures large residential projects, urban regeneration and master planning work. He specialises in delivering new build residential and mixed use projects on brownfield sites and is passionate about the rebuilding and regeneration of urban centres.


Name: Jamie Hanson
Position: Associate Director
Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Pg Dip Arch RIBA

Jamie joined CODA in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Director in 2015. Since joining the practice as an apprentice technician, he has been involved with a wide variety of projects from inception to completion, including many city centre residential projects. He now heads up the Manchester studio of CODA Studios focusing on city centre residential schemes and regeneration projects across Greater Manchester and the North West.


Name: Ryan Millar
Position: Architectural Assistant
Qualifications: BA(Hons) Architecture

Ryan has recently completed Part 1 of his architectural degree and supports the CODA team on a wide variety of projects. He is proficient on AutoCad, Photoshop and Sketchup.


Name: Kyle Emmerson
Position: Architectural Assistant
Qualifications: BSc(Hons) Pg DipArch

Kyle joined CODA fresh from university in 2014 and has since proven himself to be a very talented designer. His role is centred on building design, from early concept through to detailed design and is focused on large scale urban residential projects across the UK.


Name: Andrew Chetwynd
Position: Architect
Qualifications: BA(Hons), BArch, PgDip, RIBA

Worked in both Sheffield and London, with a background in the implementation of large residential projects. Part of the super residential team, tasked with implementing design and build residential projects.


Name: Josh Campbell
Position: BIM Manager
Qualifications: Bsc (Hons) Architectural Technology

Josh is a qualified Architectural Technologist & Certified Autodesk Professional with 4 years’ experience, after taking an immediate interest into the emerging BIM environment, he is now responsible for managing the company’s approach to delivering projects within the office to a BIM Level 2 standard, as well as staying up to date with emerging technologies to benefit both CODA and our clients.

Name: Ross Williams
Position: Junior Architectural Technician
Qualifications: Studying towards BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology

Studying Architectural Technology at Sheffield Hallam University, Ross joined CODA in September 2017. Ross assists the team on a variety of different projects, ranging from house extensions to larger residential developments. 


Name: Emma Ibbotson
Position: Part II Architectural Assistant
Qualifications: M.Arch, BA (Hons) Architecture

Emma has recently finished her RIBA Part II, Masters in Architecture and is working towards gaining her RIBA Part III qualification while being involved in a number of projects covering all stages of the RIBA plan of works; from small scale bespoke residential projects to large scale commercial projects.

Name: Michael Houldsworth 
Position: Architectural Designer
Qualifications: HNC ONC Construction and the Built Environment 

Michael was CODA’s first recruit back in 2005. Starting on small bespoke projects in the early days, Michael now plays a crucial role in CODAs front end design team. Specialising in BIM he has played a major part in designing some of CODAs most recent multi million pound residential, and commercial schemes.

Name: Adam Murray
Position: Director of CODA Planning
Qualifications: BA(Hons) DipTP MRTPI

As the founding Director of CODA Planning, Adam can bring a career of experience of major and strategic planning applications to any project. Leading on all major projects across the country, including those previously mentioned, Adam has extensive experience of all aspects of the planning system and has earned himself and CODA Planning a reputation for his ability to successfully take major and particularly difficult sites and proposals through the planning process, and to success at appeal. Prior to founding CODA Planning Adam’s experience at Harworth Estates involved dealing with and leading planning consultancy on huge strategic regeneration sites across the country.

In addition, Adam is one of the founding board members of the Sheffield Property Association, the voice of the property industry and private sector within Sheffield, and is also the Vice Chair of the Sheffield Property + Regeneration Committee within the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.


Name: Charles Dunn
Position: Senior Planner
Qualifications: MPlan MRTPI

As a Senior Planner at CODA Planning, Charles leads major projects for clients through the planning process from conception to the delivery of planning permission and beyond. Since joining the consultancy in 2014 Charles has expanded his experience and skillset dramatically and in his role holds responsibility for the project management of proposals through the planning process, including the coordination of other consultants and members of project teams. A keen understanding of the commercial imperatives faced by different sites means that Charles approaches each project as a balance between these priorities and the relevant planning requirements, ensuring the best possible outcome for client.


Name: William Marshall
Position: Planner
Qualifications: MPlan MRTPI

Since joining the CODA Planning team in 2015, William has worked on a wide range of projects including house extensions, commercial development and large residential schemes. As a Planner, whilst undertaking projects across the country, William primarily works within the Sheffield City Region and has developed a strong knowledge of and working relationship with those local authorities to help gain successful permissions. His role involves liaising with different consultants and stakeholders whilst producing a variety of supporting documents such as Retail Impact Assessments, sequential tests and planning statements

Name: Benjamin Dakin
Position: Planner
Qualifications: BA(Hons) MA(Hons)

Benjamin joined CODA planning in 2016 as an Assistant Planner and was promoted to Planner in 2018. As part of his responsibilities, Benjamin leads on a number of smaller- to medium-scale projects whilst also working alongside Adam and Charles on major projects. Dealing with such schemes has allowed him to develop a wide experience of the English planning system and to deliver a number of permissions up and down the country. Through his experience, Benjamin had developed a strong knowledge of the planning system and how it works in practice, as well as a strong skillset in dealing with planning applications and project managing them to deliver the best possible outcome for clients.

Name: Mark Boyd
Position: Assitant Planner
Qualifications: MPlan (Studying)

Mark joined CODA Planning on a part-time basis in September 2018 as an assistant planner, and provides support to the team with their numerous and wide-ranging projects. He is currently combining this role with the final year of his MPlan Urban Studies and Planning degree at the University of Sheffield.

In addition to his work and his studies, Mark is an active member of the Young Urbanists with the Academy of Urbanism, in which urban thinkers and practitioners come together to recognise, encourage and celebrate great places across Europe and beyond.

Name: Abel Hinchliffe
Position: Associate Director

With nearly 10 years’ experience Abel heads up CODA Bespoke, specialising in luxury residential developments both large and small. Recently entrusted with the responsibility of also heading up Studio 4 which is currently delivering numerous office to residential developments.


Name: Lisa Cowley
Position: Architectural Technologist
Qualifications: Bsc (Hons) Architectural Technology

Lisa is a qualified Architectural Technologist with 7 years’ experience at CODA. Now specialising in boutique housing schemes, office to residential conversions and takes great pride in her role in conservation and listed building works.

Name: Tom Holmes
Position: Assistant Architectural Technician
Qualifications: Currently Studying Architectural Technology at Sheffield Hallam University
Tom plays a vital part in the CODA Bespoke technical delivery team, focusing on the detailed design, moving projects through building regulations and onto the tender stage.

Name: Henry Freeman
Position: Structural Engineer
Qualifications: BEng Hons AMIStructE

Since graduating in 2007 I have gained valuable experience working on projects in a various sectors for consultancies throughout the UK. I starting work in Sheffield on mixed use residential schemes, then moved on to Birmingham to work on large scale energy from waste facilities. CODA Structures was set up in 2015 and provides integrated structural design to our client’s projects. Early involvement in the design process streamlines workflow and allows us to quickly deliver solutions to projects in house.

Name: Toni Cross
Position: Accounts Department/Office Manager
Qualifications: Level 4 in Business Administrations

Toni deals with the accounts side of CODA but also helps to oversee HR and the running of the office with Samantha.

Name: Louise Bennett
Position: Accounts Manager
Qualifications: A Level in Business Studies & Commerce

Louise manages the accounts of the various businesses within CODA Studios and helps to manage and oversee the running of the Sheffield office.

Name: Julie Holland
Position: Office Administrator
Qualifications: L3 Diploma in Business.

Julie provides a warm welcome to both visitors and staff and oversees the day to day needs of the business in her multi functional role.
