It is widely recognised that good quality housing can improve the quality of our lives. At Coda we are passionate about housing and are well-aware that good quality design can also improve social well-being by reducing crime levels, improving public health, and reducing traffic problems. This can ultimately lead to increased property values and stronger communities.
Building For Life is a national scheme that embodies this vision of functional, attractive and sustainable housing and allows new developments to be assessed according to recognised criteria. These are a series of 20 questions which must be satisfied. Whilst many of these appear to be common-sense, it can be costly to achieve compliance if full consideration is not given at the design stage.
Building for Life assessments are increasingly being demanded by planning authorities and are backed by government guidelines and policy. It is therefore very important that architects and developers take these standards seriously and consider their implications for the future of society.
Here at Coda we strive to incorporate these standards into our work as a matter of good practice and to maximise the quality and profitability of our client's developments.
